As you will all have read, we opened our new London office earlier this week and Alan is joining the business as Partner and bringing with him, his knowledge and experience of working within tax for over 35 years.
We’re also taking the opportunity to get to know a little more about Alan and what he likes to do outside of office hours. Alan, thank you for taking time to join us, we’re really excited to be chatting to you and welcoming you to the wider Claritas team.
I’m hugely excited to have finally teamed up with Claritas and to have opened the doors (albeit metaphorically at the moment) to the London office. Over the next few months I think we’ll start to see London getting back to the city we knew before Covid hit, although a quieter, calmer city wouldn’t go a miss.
The objective for Claritas being in London is to be seen as alternate mainstream tax advisers, who can deliver efficient and pertinent tax advice to past and future clients as part of our growing brand. The team have been working out of London for many years, but it seemed like a natural progression to open a city base here. The London office works in partnership with Claritas’ other two office in Birmingham and Manchester.
Well, I’m a Tax Partner with 35 years of experience, both at partner level in Tax firms, as well as running my own consultancy in and around London for a number of years. I am therefore, well known in London’s tax and business circles, having worked in the city for most of my professional life.
I also bring experience from those 35 years and with that I also bring knowledge. I am what most people would call a tax-allrounder, I have experience of most areas of taxation, and I can readily provide an off the cuff answer and a point of direction. I am an entrepreneur first and foremost and share many of my client’s own aspirations for success and growth.
A number of words spring to mind, but they probably aren’t to be used in this interview, I would however say you need to be Adaptable, Commercial and have some element of Intellectual problem solving, which helps when you’re trying to tackle a tax problem.
The quickest answer isn’t always the easiest or the most appropriate for a client’s needs. There is a lot of reading and analysing as well in the world of tax, so an Analytical brain also helps – although I realise that is more than three words!
I love films, I am a complete film buff – I love critiquing every aspect of film, safe to say I have watched a fair few films over the years.
I also really enjoy being outside, walking and exploring country trails – it really gives you a chance to clear your head and blow away any cobwebs you may have in there. I can often be found out in the countryside at the weekend, it makes such a change from the city during the week.
The world of tax is constantly changing, so keep up to date on all our news, views and opinions
