Indirect Tax Manager

The Role:

Our Indirect Taxes team, led by Richard Smith, work across a broad range of clients in all sectors and on various technical advisory and compliance-orientated projects. Due to the continued development of the firm and the consistent year-on-year growth of the – VAT service line over the past three years, we are looking for an ambitious Assistant Manager or Manager to further develop their career and join us in one of our offices located across the UK.

Essential background and experience includes:

We appreciate that experience will vary depending on the grade you apply for, but regardless of this, you will be supported by Richard and his team, who together have almost 50 years’ experience in the VAT world. You will also have the benefit of support from the wider, award-winning Claritas tax team.

  • Minimum of three years’ experience (Assistant Manager) or four years’ experience (Manager) in an indirect tax role either in professional practice, at HMRC or in industry (or a mixture of all three);
  • CTA and / or ACA qualified (preferred although not essential).
  • Experience of dealing directly with clients and
  • A good working knowledge/ experience of the key relevant areas of tax involved in Indirect Taxation, including the following areas:
    • “End-to-End” M&A transactions – working with the wider tax due diligence teams by providing support on identifying material VAT-related risks and opportunities (e.g., prepare information requests, attend calls with management/advisors, review responses/documents, identify tax risks and opportunities (quantifying where necessary) and preparing VAT sections of due diligence reports).
    • Maximising VAT recovery on professional costs incurred by businesses undertaking M&A activity including PE-backed acquisitions, trade disposals, reorganisations, refinancing and restructuring.
    • Real estate transactions for residential and commercial developers and investors (including but not limited to purpose-built student accommodation, care homes and serviced apartments).
    • Post-Brexit complex international supply chains likely to give rise to additional VAT compliance and reporting requirements.
    • Partial exemption methodology and product liability reviews for business in the FS, Real Estate and Health & Welfare sectors.

These roles are preferably full-time, but we will consider part-time/flexible working arrangements where necessary.
