Everyone has heard tales of dodgy jockeys swapping fancy silks for a prison jumpsuit, but now Claritas Tax, the award-winning independent tax advisory firm based in Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham is locking up their Partners to help raise funds for FareShare, the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

Although Matt Hodgson and Iain Wright have not committed any actual crime (except against fashion – we’ve all see the photos), Birmingham’s Police Museum: The Lock Up will see the defendants put before a Judge and answering to their crimes before (hopefully) being sentenced to jail on Tuesday 27th June. Our fundraising target is £1500 ‘bail’ between them before they can, once again, be free to provide top tax tips. The Claritas team will be active on social media during the day asking for additional donations from punters who would like to see the prisoners face any number of gruesome and gruelling prisoner tasks. It would be a crime not to donate some cash!

FareShare takes surplus good-to-eat food, which is unsold or unwanted by the food industry and might otherwise go to waste. At a time when food prices are rising and the cost of living crisis is driving millions into food poverty, the frontline charities who receive food from FareShare are reporting skyrocketing demand for their services.  These charities help tackle the root causes of poverty, and provide wraparound services including homelessness shelters, lunch clubs for elderly people suffering with isolation, and support with issues including debt, employment and mental health.

Shabnam Amini, director of fundraising at FareShare, says:  “We are extremely grateful to the team at Claritas Tax for undertaking this challenge to raise funds for FareShare. The money raised will make a valuable contribution to helping us get good-to-eat surplus food to people who need it most, and help strengthen communities by supporting the essential work of our network of frontline charity partners.”

Museum Manager, Helen Taylor from The Lock Up, adds: “We’ll enjoy locking participants up but promise to let them all escape on reaching their fundraising goals”.

Matt Hodgson, Claritas Partner, says: “This is one not to be missed. I am sort of looking forward to it but just hope that my colleagues and contacts don’t go too hard on me! We are big on giving back to the community and our challenges provide a focus to the team, who know that they are making a difference to charities that have personal meaning.”

The question is, do our inmates have a good enough relationship with everyone to bail them out? Make sure you stay tuned on Tuesday 27th June 2023 and remember, please do give generously – Claritas Tax is fundraising for FareShare (justgiving.com)
