Taxation is a constantly changing and high-profile field.  Here at Claritas Tax, we can offer you the opportunity to work in tax advisory, giving you a deep understanding of tax and how business transactions can be affected by tax law.  Our work is predominately project and solution-based, requiring daily problem-solving and the application of complex tax law to a wide variety of commercial situations.

Claritas Tax are the UK’s largest independent specialist tax advisory firm with offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow and Bristol.  We work with the directors and owners of businesses, private equity firms, venture capitalists and high-net-worth individuals to help them achieve their commercial and personal objectives.  To do this, we take time to understand their requirements and situation and then provide them with solutions.  In such a way, we help clients achieve their objectives tax efficiently taking into account our duties to them and society.

Over the last few years, we have won numerous awards, including Independent Tax Firm of the Year at the Taxation Awards, and were voted Best Specialist Services Team of the Year at the Midlands Dealmakers Awards for the last two years. We were also listed in The Sunday Times’ Best Companies to Work For in 2023. We are a tightly knit team working closely together and we have more than doubled in size in the last 3 years. You will be based in our Birmingham office and you will be:

  • an integral part of a growing firm,
  • helping to deliver tax advisory projects (see our website for more information on the types of work we do, Our Solutions – Claritas Tax),
  • assisting with tax research,
  • meeting clients in a support role to the senior team,
  • assisting with tax compliance (both corporate and personal taxes),
  • experiencing different areas of work during your initial training period via our Seat Rotation program, where you will work within a specific service line (Mergers and Acquisitions Tax, Business Tax Planning and Advisory, Corporation Tax Compliance, Personal Tax, Valuations, Innovation Reliefs,) for a 6-month period for each Seat.

Training and development offered

We are an ICAEW Authorised Training Employer and as part of your programme, you will study two chartered qualifications: the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and the ACA qualification provided by the ICAEW.  This is an advanced programme that will provide you with the opportunity to develop both your business and technical skills. You will also achieve the government-recognised Level 7 Apprenticeship qualification, developing essential soft skills (non-technical) sought in the professional services sector.

You will begin studying towards your first professional exams soon after joining, instantly developing knowledge that will support your work in tax. Through tuition via an acclaimed provider, and a qualified team with the same experience, you will have the best support and resources to study for these exams, gaining the tax knowledge, accountancy skills and real-world business experience to jumpstart your career in tax.

You will have a tailored training and ongoing coaching and development plan through your training and beyond.

You will join with your own personal support network, including a buddy to offer first-hand experience. You’ll receive guidance and support each step of the way to make sure you have everything you need to realise your potential from day one.

Qualifications and candidate expectations

We are looking for ambitious individuals with excellent numeracy and communication skills together with strong literacy and report writing skills. You will also have the following characteristics:

  • Inquiring mind and a problem solver with high standards.
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in tax and commitment to qualifying as both a Chartered Tax Advisor and Chartered Accountant.
  • The ability to work to multiple deadlines, prioritise your time and balance the demands of work and study.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team.

Academic requirements are:

  • A 2:1 degree or above in any subject.
  • A UCAS tariff of at least 120 (300 old tariff) or equivalent.
  • Grade 6 (B using the old system) or above in GCSE Maths and English.
