I’m an enthusiastic administration professional with around 7 years experience, supporting a range of office functions. I have worked both recruitment and multi national management consultancy settings ensuring smooth and effective running’s of the office.
I like to be known to be the first person to come to when there is any issues or questions need to be answered. I’ve dealt with all administrative tasks including facilities management, diary management & formatting documents and I love helping people out.
I enjoy playing golf which is a new hobby I have taken up, spending time with my fiancé and family especially my two cheeky nieces!
I graduated from the University of Nottingham all the way back in 2008 and have spent the past 11 years living and working in Shanghai, China, where I started out teaching before transitioning into training and management roles. I recently returned to the UK looking for a career change and was fortunate enough to be selected for Claritas’ graduate programme starting in September 2021, based in the Birmingham office.
I am eager to learn and get hands-on experience in a broad range of areas and feel extremely lucky to be surrounded and supported by colleagues with such a wealth of experience. In my previous career I always took great satisfaction from listening to students and colleagues and helping them to find solutions to their problems and I look forward to continuing that in a new context.
I enjoy reading, video games when I find the time, and watching pretty much any sport. I was a keen rugby player before I moved away and in recent years have taken up golf and boxing, although it is fair to say that my enthusiasm far exceeds my ability in both. Having spent so long overseas I am looking forward to spending some quality time with family and friends and having the opportunity to travel around the UK.
I am committed and motivated with over 16 years experience working in management roles across different formats, trade and customer service areas at one of the big 4 supermarkets.
I also spent 2 years as a Civil Enforcement Officer serving distress warrants on behalf of councils and magistrates.
I am resilient and driven in all aspects of my work, always looking to expand my knowledge and expertise. I strive to enhance my skill set in order to provide a polished professional service that exceeds the expectations of the customer or client.
Now that my knees unfortunately no longer allow pain free sporting participation I love to watch football, F1 and international rugby. I support Liverpool FC, I just wish match tickets were more regularly available.
I have 5 children, 2 from a previous relationship that are now adults and 3 with my wife, aged 7, 3 & 11 months, all of which keeps me extremely busy. I love socialising with friends and family, going out for meals and the occasional bike ride.
I am dual-qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians. I have over twenty years’ experience in providing advice on capital allowances and other investment incentives and reliefs, to clients in all sectors and ranging in scale from owner-managed businesses to multinational and listed groups.
My experience includes financial modelling, due diligence, transaction structuring, expenditure analysis and claim preparation, and dealing with HMRC and the Valuation Office.
I have built up substantial expertise in interpreting cost data and technical building specifications, and in leveraging this understanding to optimise the tax relief available on property and construction expenditure, helping clients to benefit from tax breaks and regeneration and sustainability incentives.
My two main loves are travel and transport, which fit together well. Trains, planes, trucks and ships all get me embarrassingly excited but my main love is cars – I love nothing better than a good road trip through fantastic scenery. Highlights have been journeys around Iceland, along the Great Ocean Road in Australia, and a week spent driving a convertible Camaro through Wyoming and Montana, but I’ve found nowhere that can compare to the Scottish Highlands. Which is handy, as Scotland’s a lot easier and cheaper to get to.
At home piles of unread novels, unopened car magazines, and unironed laundry grow ever higher while I slump in front of a boxset on Sky or Netflix.
I’m a tax adviser with over nine years’ experience. I have been part of Private Client teams in both Big Four and Top Ten accountancy firms. I enjoy working in tax so much that outside of my role at Claritas I also write articles on topical tax matters.
I advise high net worth individuals and their families on all aspects of their personal tax affairs. Each client is unique because they have different attitudes towards tax, retirement, asset protection and succession planning. Add to that the different family dynamics, varied asset bases and income streams and each case becomes a new jigsaw puzzle. I like nothing more than finding a way to put all the pieces together to produce a bespoke tax strategy that works for the whole family.
In my spare time I enjoy family days out, swimming, planning trips to Disney and persuading my partner to buy more pets. I can usually be found shopping, bingeing a true crime podcast or trying to source obscure toys for my son’s collection.
I’m a Chartered Tax Adviser and Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience, beginning with a Big Four firm followed by a move to HSBC. At the bank a main specialism was Asset Finance and the tax function of the bank’s private equity investment vehicles. More latterly I was heavily involved in group reporting.
Claritas has an extraordinarily diverse client base so work is very varied. I regularly advise on overseas tax structuring, liaising with overseas advisers and lawyers. The challenge is to deliver a workable solution taking all factors other than just tax into account.
I look after my local church finances and I’m a trustee of a charity. I play the clarinet in a local amateur orchestra and every Friday evening three of us clarinettists get together – not a jamming session- more Rossini than Rock. I’m a member of a male voice choir which involves 40 men singing together – blowing away any cobwebs there may be.
I’m a Chartered Tax Adviser specialising in providing tax advisory services to private companies, owner managers and High Net Worth individuals advising on all taxes and their interaction. Prior to joining Claritas I have always held tax advisory roles in Mid-Tier and Boutique firms specialising in the privately owned business market. I am also a member of the Chartered Institute of Tax Owner Managed Business Committee.
Most of my time is spent advising on transactional tax matters such as reorganisations, restructures and sales and acquisitions but in the world of private businesses where the business and the owner are inseparable I have always advised on both personal and corporate tax matters. Therefore I also get involved with private client matters, employee share incentivisation and advising on shareholder tax reliefs. The best part of tax is no two days or projects are the same and I enjoy the challenge that the variety of that and the ever-changing tax legislation brings.
I thrive on building strong relationships with clients, colleagues and other professionals alike and pride myself on being a trusted adviser to rely on. I love breaking down technical tax legislation into something more understandable and relish in helping clients achieve their objectives. With my sense of humour and light-hearted approach I like to hope I go against the tax adviser stereotype – no one ever said tax had to be boring!
I enjoy keeping fit by going on long walks with my crazy golden cocker spaniel Polly as well as going to fitness classes and on runs. I also love cooking, baking and wine tasting which largely counteracts my otherwise active lifestyle – they say life is all about balance! When not at work I’m usually burning the candle at both ends filling my social calendar with my husband, friends and family who I adore.
I’m a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) based in the Manchester office, joining Claritas in October 2020. Prior to this I have three years’ experience working in tax advisory and compliance, and before that I had a ten year career as a musician.
I specialise in preparing R&D tax relief claims for SMEs in a wide range of industries, as well as helping innovative businesses identify and apply for grant funding opportunities.
I spend a lot of my time reading and still have a big passion for playing music, as well as a love of making cider.
I’m a Chartered Accountant working towards completing my CTA qualification.
I previously worked in a mid-tier firm specialising in providing tax advisory services to private owner managed businesses and high net worth individuals. In particular, I advised on employee share schemes, sales of companies and group restructures.
I will be focusing on Claritas’ Valuations and Transactional Tax service lines, which will support in navigating clients on the complex and challenging nature of tax.
I enjoy trying new activities (currently hot yoga). But my time is generally spent with friends and family, travelling, reading and exercising.
I’m a Chartered Tax Advisor and Chartered Accountant with over 15 years’ experience in advising on a broad range of tax issues. Before joining Claritas, I worked for Big Four and boutique tax advisory firms specialising in mid-market clients, owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs and family offices.
I enjoy combining problem solving and technical skills to enable delivery of clear, practical tax advice and solutions that help clients achieve their commercial objectives. A lot of my time is spent advising on the tax implications of M&A transactions and restructuring – with privately owned businesses, this will often involve advising on personal and business tax matters and the interaction between them. As well as advising on transactional matters, I believe in developing close ongoing relationships with clients to understand their needs and to work with them on tax issues that arise throughout the business life cycle – this keeps me on my toes as you never know what question is coming next!
I have two young boys so family life is always very busy (and noisy!). We love travelling, being outdoors and exploring new places (also known as – dragging my children out on walks!). At home, I enjoy cooking, baking and trying anything a bit crafty – in the last couple of years I’ve taken up dressmaking. For something totally different but very rewarding, I am also a governor at my children’s lovely school.
I’m on the graduate programme at Claritas and I started with the firm in October 2020. I graduated from the University of Manchester with a First-Class Degree in Chemistry. Since my graduation I have worked in the Science and Logistics industries and I am always excited to apply my unique perspective at Claritas.
I am keen to be exposed to a variety of different areas, and to work with as many colleagues as possible to allow myself to benefit from the variety of talent and experience that exists within the firm. I have an inquisitive mind and like to ask questions, but once information is available to me, I am eager to problem-solve.
I enjoy following the fitness industry and like to spend free time in the gym. I’ve also picked up the guitar in the last couple of years and I enjoy spending time learning new techniques of playing. I also have a love for all things tech and like seeing cutting edge technologies making it into the consumer space.
I graduated from the University of Manchester with BSc International Management in 2022 and did an internship there right after. I am now looking forward to develop my career in Claritas as a Tax Trainee and work towards my qualifications.
As a new joiner I look forward to get exposure to a variety of projects in order to become more familiar with the industry and build up experience. I am also excited to see how everything I learn from the ACA and CTA courses applies in practice.
I enjoy crocheting small projects like coasters, accessories or decorations and gifting them to friends or hoarding them at home. I’m also into gaming and any type of board games and love playing with friends. In the meantime, I am very dedicated to taking care of my 12 houseplants.
I’m a Chartered Tax Advisor and Chartered Accountant with over 18 years’ experience in practice advising on a broad range of tax issues. Before joining Claritas, I worked for both a Big Four and mid-tier firm within corporate tax, specialising in mid-market clients, owner-managed and Private Equity backed businesses.
I love the problem-solving nature of my job and using my technical knowledge to work with clients on finding the right solution to meet their commercial objectives. I am equally at home getting stuck into the annual compliance work as I am advising on complex restructuring and reorganisation work for clients.
I have two young daughters so I am very much ‘out-numbered by girls’ in our family home with my wife Sarah, but will happily throw myself whole-heartly into the crazy rainbow-unicorn-fairy-princess obsessed world they live in at the drop of a hat.
I am a Chartered Tax Adviser and Chartered Accountant with over 15 years’ experience working in tax. My main focus has been working with owner-managed businesses in a range of different sectors to deliver tax solutions to the companies and their owners.
I enjoy getting to know the businesses I work with and the people that run them to ensure I understand their strategy and goals. This gives me the tools I need to provide practical and commercial tax advice to my clients. I believe strong relationships are the key to knowing what conversations are needed to ensure, as a firm, we are doing everything we can to assist our clients.
I enjoy keeping active (although it may not look like it) and regularly play tennis and squash. Until recently I also played lacrosse for my local team. My other interests include film, going to live music and comedy, socialising with friends and occasionally attempting to hike up the most challenging local routes I can manage.
I’m a Chartered Tax Adviser with over 20 years’ experience in the tax profession in Big Four, Mid-Tier firms and Industry. I joined Claritas Birmingham in April 2016 and I’ve enjoyed coming to work every day since.
I really enjoy building client relationships and dealing with the varied bespoke tax issues encountered by my clients. This means the work I advise on is wide-ranging and involves dealing with Restructuring, International Tax, R&D tax relief, Enterprise Investment Schemes, Venture Capital Trusts, Enterprise Management Incentive schemes, Capital Allowance claims and Tax Compliance – I said it was varied!
I love spending time with my family. I have two boys who keep me very active and busy, this usually includes taking them swimming and to clubs at the gym, sometimes I also get chance for a workout. My children are thrill seekers, which they get from my husband, so I often find myself on very scary rollercoasters some of which I would prefer not to be on! We also recently had a new addition to our family who enjoys going for walks – a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is also male, I’m definitely outnumbered in our house.
A Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser, I have advised HNW and UHNW clients on all kinds of Private Client tax matters for almost 25 years. Specialising in trusts and inheritance tax, I am also a full STEP member and a member of the worldwide STEP Journal editorial board.
Being a Private Client tax adviser means you really need to get to know your clients, and about their aims and aspirations, so I spend a lot of time talking to clients and finding out about their families and future requirements. I also love talking about tax, so you will often find me extolling the virtues of trusts or the intricacies of capital gains tax to clients and contacts, or writing about tax matters in various places.
In addition to two teenage children who keep me on my toes, I also play rugby for Aston Old Edwardians RFC, a local club whose first XV were once captained by my father and for whom my daughter also plays. When not scrummaging, I am an avid reader, and a Kindle convert after running out of room on my bookshelves! I am also enthusiastically learning to play squash, and somewhat less enthusiastically attempting to learn how to hit a golf ball.
I joined Claritas as a Graduate in July 2022 and I’m currently working towards my ACA and CTA. My previous experience involves almost two years as a Audit and Accounts Trainee, until I decided to indulge into the realm of Taxation. Prior to that, I graduated from Nottingham Trent University, with a 2:1 in Accounting and Finance.
I am thrilled to gain exposure to the world of taxation with the support and guidance of my colleagues and gain an understanding of our client’s businesses whilst finding solutions to the challenges they face. Predominantly, I will engage in a variety of tax advisory projects including mergers and acquisitions and assisting with Research & Development tax relief claims.
Aside from preparing for examinations, spending time with my friends and family means everything to me. I like to keep fit and go to the gym as much as possible, I’m also food lover, so I enjoy going to different restaurants (finding a balance between both tends to be difficult!) In addition, I enjoy travelling particularly to my favourite holiday destination which is Dubai!
I am a Business Development Manager with over 20 years of sales experience, predominantly working in Business/Corporate Banking, in both the UK and over in Australia. In recent years I have worked in slightly different sectors, including Fintech and R&D Tax Relief.
I specialise in building relationships which in turn develop opportunities to grow business. I identify a need of a business and provide a solution that will usually also help them grow and develop too. My approach is friendly yet consultative with a genuine desire to learn about how my clients operate and what their businesses do on a day-to-day basis.
You’ll find me on as many holidays as possible. When I’m not travelling, I spend a lot of time with friends socialising. I also enjoy exercising and am a keen gym goer. When I’m not in the gym, I’m walking my dog getting my steps up!
I’m a Chartered Tax Adviser with over 22 years’ experience in senior management positions in Big Four and Mid-Tier firms. I established Claritas’ Manchester office in May 2019.
I try to maintain an equal balance between winning and delivering work. I like nothing more than being in the thick of a fast-paced transaction, pulling out all the stops to help a buyer or seller get their deal over the line. I make a point of speaking with my clients as much as they can bear and I also love spending time ‘in the market’, building my network of contacts across the finance community.
I’m very active. I spent over a decade addicted to Ironman triathlons before calming down and finding two equally addictive sports in the form of golf and tennis. I’m married to a Nuclear Engineer and I have an energetic eight year old daughter.
I’m a Chartered Tax Adviser with over 30 years’ experience. I’ve worked predominantly in Big Four firms within their M&A and Restructuring teams, and I was also responsible for setting up the UK tax practice for an international, mid-market German accountancy and legal practice. I joined Claritas Birmingham in July 2016.
My time is split between transactional and restructuring projects and overseas inbound investment advice. I like working on both the buy and sell-side of deals and assisting clients to structure their investments in the UK in an efficient way which will not give rise to future tax issues. I enjoy building relationships with my clients and a key part of this is understanding their business and the commercial drivers behind the transactions they enter into. I then work with them to develop a plan which achieves their commercial objectives.
I’m a keen photographer and I combine this hobby my love of walking in the Lake District and Wales. I’m also a keen cyclist – somewhat keener since I recently acquired an electric bike!
I studied Law at university and decided to start a career in tax so I could continue to work with legislation and cases. I’m CTA qualified and have over 20 years’ experience of working with businesses and their owners.
I enjoy working with business owners and other advisers on transactions – whether that’s providing sell-side advice or tax due diligence for acquirers. I also make sure business owners have the appropriate ownership structures in place to achieve their commercial and personal goals. I assist companies in making R&D and Patent Box relief claims. Both can provide extremely valuable savings or cash injections. It also gives me the chance to really understand what companies do. I have an enquiring mind, so this naturally appeals to me.
I like to read short stories, and occasionally try to write my own. I have too many vinyl records to count and enjoy listening to them with friends. Every now and then I threaten to ‘get back into running’.
I’m a newly qualified Chartered Accountant working towards completing my CTA qualification. I joined the Claritas graduate scheme in February 2019 and qualified in 2022. Prior to Claritas I spent two years working as a compliance caseworker at HMRC.
I spend the majority of my time working in private client, completing tax returns and advisory reports for clients. I also get involved with R&D claims and Corporate compliance as well as other tax areas as and when required to meet the needs of the business.
I like to be active in my spare time, trying out new exercise classes and running round after my young Bichon Frise! I also enjoy baking for my family and reading fantasy and murder mystery novels.
I’m a Chartered Tax Adviser and I’ve been working at Claritas since April 2017. Previously I was a graduate trainee and then Senior Associate at a Big Four firm in Birmingham.
My time is split between personal tax advice and transactional and restructuring projects. I trained in a Private Client team, so I have experience in dealing with all tax matters relating to high-net worth individuals, entrepreneurs and trusts. I also enjoy working on both the buy and sell-side of deals. My favourite part of the job is meeting and getting to know our clients, who are often very interesting, entrepreneurial people.
I’m a basketball addict and consume as much NBA content as I can, battling against the transatlantic time difference. I enjoy keeping fit and travelling, and I love gaming on my large collection of Nintendo consoles.
I’m a tax specialist with over 25 years’ experience, both within Big Four firms and in-house, most recently as Head of Tax at RAC. I’ve been with Claritas since May 2018. My background is in corporate tax but during my career I’ve worked across the full range of taxes.
Most of my time is spent advising on structuring reorganisations and business sales and purchases. I especially enjoy analysing complex structures and developing a solution which meets my clients’ commercial objectives which will not cause them further tax problems down the line. Having been an in-house tax specialist for 10 years, I know how it feels to be the client as well as to be the adviser, which I hope enables me to deliver advice, which is clear, concise, and tailored to the specific project at hand.
I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and watching a lot of crime drama on TV. I’m also trying to improve my tennis, so I don’t lose to my teenage daughter too often – having only taken it up at the age of 48 – I have plenty of scope for improvement.
I am a Chartered Accountant, who began working at Claritas on the Graduate Scheme after finishing University. I grew up in Birmingham and attended King Edward’s School and then did a BA in Classics at the University of Birmingham, followed by a Masters in International Business. I enjoy meeting new people and am looking forward to developing my professional network over the coming years.
I work in a number of different areas of tax although predominantly involve myself in Venture Capital Scheme investment advice; Tax compliance; Company Restructuring and Due diligence work.
I enjoy playing korfball, going for Park Runs, and jamming on my guitar. I am an experimental chef and like spending time with my family.
I am a Manchester based tax adviser with a background in tax return compliance and advisory services for individuals.
In collaboration with the wider team I provide tax advice to individuals regarding their business interests and personal circumstances, such as tax residence, and assist clients in fulfilling their tax reporting obligations to HMRC.
I enjoy trying my hand at a variety of things but will consistently be found at certain music festivals or throwing my backpack on to go wandering.
I am an enthusiastic communications professional, with a passion for engaging effectively with employees and stakeholders alike. My professional summary to date includes over seven years’ experience in internal and external communications, as well as significant experience in business branding, utilising various media to create a comprehensive, and meaningful profile of the business. This is all across diverse sectors ranging from Housing, Children’s Services, Independent Fostering and Government contracts.
I love bringing stories to life! I am always keen on promoting what an amazing job and outcomes individuals and/or teams do. The power of communication is one of the most effective tools for any business and it is my job to tease out the information from what I hear, and create a compelling and engaging piece of writing or video to share…there’s no such phrase as “I’m camera shy” with me.
Aside to being a mum of two cheeky young children, who are sleep thieves – but I wouldn’t have it any other way, as they are my World; I am a semi professional dancer in commercial and contemporary dancing. I always find that I escape in the music and it’s a great energiser. I have competed in competitions around the UK, and won several awards. I have even performed in the Royal Variety show, in front of the Queen, back in my day as a ballerina, with the Royal Ballet school.
I’m a Manager here at Claritas and I’ve been working within accountancy and tax for over 20 years. Prior to joining in January 2015, I worked at a small accountancy practice for 16 years.
I’m busy with day-to-day office management, personal tax compliance and employment related securities filings. I also look after graduate recruitment and thoroughly enjoy interviewing our new recruits and going out to graduate fairs.
I’m obsessed with animals! I have two super cute French Bulldogs, three cats and two beautiful horses. During my free time, I’m either at the stables looking after and riding my horses or taking the dogs for long walks over Cannock Chase.
I’m a tax specialist with over 17 years’ experience. I’ve had roles with Big Four and mid-tier firms. I’ve also worked within the in-house tax team of a magic circle law firm. I suppose I’m a slightly different tax advisor in that I studied law at university and went on to successfully pass the BAR (not the drinking type!), which is a qualification required to become a practising barrister. I also successfully qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor. It definitely feels like I spent a lot of my “youth” studying. I joined Claritas in 2015, when there were only five members of the team.
It goes without saying, that as a tax advisor I enjoy a technical challenge, finding practical solutions to meet a client’s commercial objectives. However, I also thoroughly enjoy interacting with clients. I spend a lot of my time advising on both sell-side and buy-side transactional work, corporate reorganisations and reconstructions.
My role also involves advising all stakeholders with an interest in this process. My aim is always to provide practical, focused and clear advice to ensure my client fully understands what it means for them and their business. I also spend a lot of time developing new contacts, I do occasionally like to get away from my desk and away from tax legislation!
Contrary to the myth, I do enjoy other things outside of tax. I’m an avid Liverpool FC fan, I also watch a lot of boxing, tennis and I like to keep fit.
I’m also a keen musician, writing and producing electronic music in my home study. I also listen to a lot of music, I’ve been collecting vinyl since the age of 18. I am married and have two lovely but crazy young boys, who certainly take up a lot of my time.
I’m a Chartered Tax Advisor with a little over six years of experience in the accountancy industry. Before joining Claritas I worked for a couple of mid-sized, independent firms based in Stockport, with tax departments that provided both compliance and advisory services. I started my career however in my hometown of Peterborough as a graduate working for MHA MacIntyre Hudson.
I try to get involved in a wide range of tax work so I’m constantly expanding my skills and expertise. More recently though my focus has tended towards the corporate side, advising on transactions and deals for entrepreneurial, family-owned business, for example. In my time working in the accountancy industry I have always worked within the SME sector, often assisting companies who are quite large, but have retained an individual culture. I also have a great deal of experience with employee share schemes, assisting clients with the implementation of EMI schemes, for example, as well as providing general advice on this area of tax.
Sport is probably my main passion, so on most evenings and at weekends you will probably find me watching whatever sport is on the TV, although my focus is on athletics, rugby and MMA. It’s fair to say I’m not as good physically as I am verbally (shouting at the TV), so I tend to stick to keeping up my fitness with simple runs generally twice a week. I’m also very big into comedy, at all levels, so if there’s an opportunity to see some live shows I’ll often be first in line to get tickets.
I’m a Chartered Accountant and I’ve been with Claritas since September 2016. Previously, I spent three years working in Operations Management with fast-moving consumer goods companies, including Samworth Brothers and Ocado.
I specialise in Employee Share Schemes and Valuations for UK tax purposes, helping our clients to successfully attract, develop, retain and incentivise their key employees. I enjoy getting to understand our clients’ businesses, which cover a multitude of sectors from software providers and airport operators to food producers and media companies. Every business is unique, and I like learning about the challenges our clients face and hopefully being able to be part of the solution.
I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen with my wife, usually for dinner parties with family or friends. We’re big foodies and big believers of supporting our local independent bars and restaurants. We’re also passionate about travelling to experience different cuisines around the world, our favourites being Italian and Thai. I also love muddy walks in the countryside with our dog, Otto, a chocolate brown Moyen Poodle named after our favourite pizza restaurant in the Jewellery Quarter.
I haven’t worked that out yet, much too complicated! However, I’ve been working with clients helping them with their tax affairs for over 20 years. I spent my first seven years in a Big Four firm before venturing out into the big wide world to gain more experience in winning work, building teams, and continuing to build client relationships. That’s how I ended up helping to establish Claritas as the business it is today. I’m a fixer; if there’s a problem to solve, I can’t resist.
As well as advising on the many and varied aspects of corporate and business taxes, I spend a significant part of my time advising on R&D tax relief, the team that I lead. I most enjoy getting to know the businesses that my clients’ run and the people themselves; I’ve always relished being able to help people. This also spills into my other roles in the office as a development coach, heading up our graduate program.
I also manage how we best utilise the latest technology to help us to perform our work better.
Family time is everything to me, spending time with my son (who is a Ballroom and Latin dancer, musician, Youtuber, teenager!), daughter (artist, dancer, little madam who isn’t a teenager yet but acts like one), and my wonderful wife (who I’ve been learning to Ballroom and Latin dance with and also compete at a regional and national level). I also enjoy learning about the fundamentals of the internal combustion engine or dismantling parts of one of our cars – in an effort to fix it. I can’t resist fixing things and I love technology.
A Chartered Manager with over 15 years’ experience in Operations and Practice Management from start up to corporate consultants. My Claritas journey began in November 2020 as Practice Manager, based in the Birmingham Office.
I love compliance and have a passion for getting everything in place. I like to keep up to date with changes, ensuring everyone is engaged, onboard and enthusiastic. I thrive in a multi-functional role and am very much a people person. I love to help towards the success and reputation of the company, and I appreciate the human side of Tax.
I have a passion for fishing and love the outdoors, early morning walks and sunsets. I love watching my Wales play rugby and when they win, my house is filled with daffodils. I am married to an Executive Chef which means no cooking for me!
I am a Chartered Tax Advisor specialising in UK corporation tax. Prior to joining Claritas, I have nearly 10 years of experience of working in Big Four and top 10 firms.
I advise clients on UK corporation tax matters from both a compliance and advisory perspective. This could mean advising on reorganisations, restructurings or sales and acquisitions.
I sign up to far too many sporting events (marathons and long-distance triathlons for example) in order to stay fit. This means I spend a lot of time running and cycling!
I also spend a lot of time with my partner and our border collie (still a pup at the time of writing this) making the most of living in the Peak District.
I graduated from Aston University with a 2.1 in BSc Chemistry with an International Placement. I joined Claritas as a Graduate as part of the ACA/CTA Tax Assistant programme. Prior to starting here, I worked as a Trainee Management Accountant until I decided to pursue a career in Tax.
Being at the start of my career I aim to get myself involved with any project I can. I consider this hands-on approach to be the best way to learn. With Claritas offering such a wide array of services to clients, it is a great organisation to gain exposure in all aspects of the Tax industry.
I love sports and if I’m not watching it, I am participating in it in some form. I play Football twice a week and go running (whenever I can be motivated to wake up early enough!). I am a keen cook and am always eager to add new dishes to my repertoire for my friends and family to sample. I consider myself to be a bit of a film buff and often unwind on the sofa watching one.
I’m a chartered accountant – after a quarter of a century at KPMG I saw the light and began a new career where I’ve helped to build equity value as a serial Chair/ NED and occasionally CFO of more than a dozen businesses.
I enjoy working with great colleagues to find and change the things that will cause a step change in performance; rarely rocket science, almost always focussed on teamwork over many months. Putting clients first is the key – do that and ultimately you have a successful business model with everything that flows from that.
The deaf/blind charity Sense takes up a lot of my free time as Treasurer: I love spending time with my grown up kids, searching for my mishit golf balls, puffing up the local hills on my bike and watching the Baggies.
I’ve been with Claritas since May 2018 as a Tax Manager. With over 20 years’ experience in tax, I spent the first eight years at a Big Four firm specialising in corporate tax compliance, before moving on to mid-tier firms covering a range of taxes. More recently I worked within the UK arm of a German accountancy and legal practice.
My time is mainly spent working with our clients to help them navigate their way through complex and ever evolving world of corporate tax compliance obligations. I also assist clients in the preparation of Research and Development claims, I find it’s interesting getting to know clients and understanding their businesses. Building a strong client relationship, where the client is put first is what makes Claritas stand out – I love being part of that
Along with the compliance side of things I also get involved in advisory projects such as M&A transactions, restructuring of a company.
I love travelling and as a family we do a lot of road trips across many different countries, so many amazing places to see – yet to touch Australia! I have a passion for cooking! I’m always trying different cuisines, even making up new dishes and trying them out on my family – thankfully they don’t complain too much. When I’m not in the kitchen, I love to watch films or a good boxset.
I joined Claritas in September 2022 as a graduate, with aspirations of completing the ACA and becoming a qualified accountant. My previous professional experience includes internships in private equity and debt finance, in which I have gained valuable skills which will benefit me in this role at Claritas. I graduated from the University of Birmingham with a master’s degree in mathematics, Class II (Division I).
I am excited to gain exposure to the world of taxation, and the problems and solutions that accompany it. For instance, learning and working towards finding solutions for our clients will develop my technical skills and complement my ACA studies. I look forward to working with my colleagues on projects such as merges and acquisitions and assisting R&D tax relief claims.
I enjoy catching up with my friends, often over a coffee or having a bite to eat somewhere. In addition to this, I enjoy watching the main sporting events, such as football. I also like to keep fit and healthy by going to the gym (I find that this improves my productivity) and I used to attend kickboxing classes at university, which I ought to get back into! Aside from social and physical activities , I enjoy reading after a busy day; I enjoy non-fiction books that are informative but read like thrillers.
I was Claritas’ first graduate in 2015 having graduated from Swansea University with a First in Business Management. With the support of the team, I’ve completed both my ACA and CTA qualifications since joining.
I specialise in R&D tax claims and I’ve helped numerous businesses secure corporation tax reductions or cash payments as a result. I love speaking with clients and understanding their businesses as well as feeling you’re really making a real difference. It’s always exciting talking to clients, understanding the new and innovative things they’re working on. As well as R&D, I have experience in tax compliance as well as structuring reorganisations and valuations.
I love exercising (especially swimming) as well as cooking and baking. I also enjoy relaxing with friends and family, treating them to my latest creations in the kitchen. I would love to be able to travel more, there’s so many places I want to see and different cultures I want to experience.
I’m Chartered Institute of Tax (CIOT) qualified with over 25 years of experience in the VAT arena. Initially working as part of assurance and fraud detection teams at HM Customs & Excise (as it was back then!), I moved into ‘the profession’ in 1995 and since then have worked in numerous senior management roles predominantly in Big Four indirect tax teams both in the UK and overseas.
As a VAT specialist, I solve time-sensitive and often business-critical client issues whether that be unravelling and advising on a complex technical issue, unlocking a dispute with a transactional counterparty/tax authority or ensuring clients are compliant with existing or newly introduced legislative provisions. Using technical updates, case law or best practice, I am also keen to add value by generating and securing VAT savings to increase a businesses’ bottom line or by using VAT to inject cash and improve working capital. Over the last decade I have specialized in providing VAT services to the M&A, Private Equity and Real Estate sectors including VAT health-checks, due diligence projects, corporate/fund structuring to optimise VAT recovery on transaction costs, devising and implementing partial exemption methods and advising on the implications and compliance obligations of the Capital Goods Scheme (CGS).
When I’m not walking/chasing the family pooch (Flora) around the sand dunes of West Lancashire or being ‘dad’s taxi’ for my energetic teenage twin daughters (Isabelle and Naomi), I am a long-standing season-ticket holding Manchester City fan (with a Liverpool post-code!) and Lancashire County Cricket Club enthusiast. When culture comes calling, I am an avid Radio 6 Music listener and get to as many live gigs as parenting allows. I am married to a Year 6 primary school teacher, Jude, and have recently been appointed chair of the audit and risk committee at a local secondary school.
.
I joined the Claritas graduate scheme in September 2023. I’m a graduate of the University of Birmingham with an Accounting and Finance degree in which I achieved a 2:1. I left university with the ambitions of becoming a Chartered Accountant and was fortunate enough to be provided with the opportunity to achieve those ambitions of becoming ACA qualified whilst working at Claritas.
I make use of every opportunity to learn, gain new knowledge, and improve my skills through using my colleagues’ experiences and my own. I’m excited to be able assist clients through solving problems for them and providing them with solutions which further helps me gain more experience and develop.
I really enjoy meeting up and socialising with friends, whether it is to get food or try out new activities. I also try to keep fit and active and so enjoy going to the gym and playing football when I get the chance as well as, regularly watching my team Manchester United play. I have a passion for music and try to go to concerts for my favourite artists when the opportunity arises.
I’m a seasoned office administrator with over 25 years’ experience of working within different sectors including a multi-national company, a private bank and an accountancy firm. I’ve worked at Claritas since 2017.
I’ve been described as the one who ‘keeps the lights on’, dealing with all of the secretarial and administrative requirements in the office including client engagements, credit checks, invoicing and credit control, as well as facilities management, document processing and formatting.
I enjoy reading – anything from Andy McNab to Danielle Steele, listening to a wide range of music which, like reading, could be anything from Kings of Leon to Tamla Motown, I also enjoy spending time with my family.
I joined the graduate scheme at Claritas in September 2017 and I have since qualified as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor. Prior to that, I graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with a degree in Economics, before working at a trade finance house for almost two years.
I get involved with a variety of projects at Claritas ranging from M&A transactions, company restructurings through to valuation of shares. No two days are the same for me.
I like to eat! Whether it is trying out a new restaurant that has popped up in and around Birmingham or trying new recipes in my new trusty air fryer, I enjoy all things related to food. I also really enjoy binge watching a new drama or TV series.
I’m an Associate ACCA member, with over 27 years’ experience in Employment Tax, having previously worked for HMRC and in the Big Four firms.
I help clients to be compliant with the constantly evolving world of Employment Tax. This can range from providing ad-hoc advice (e.g. employee expenses, benefits in kind, Construction Industry Scheme, etc) to helping clients navigate themselves through HMRC Employer Compliance reviews. I take pride in working alongside clients to manage the process towards a favourable outcome, based on my experience. However, it’s not all about compliance. My involvement with clients also entails bringing them cost saving ideas, which are all above board from an HMRC perspective!
I try and stay fit as much as time allows. In particular, I enjoy running and ‘playing’ cricket for a bit of ‘me’ time! Most of the time is spent driving around my three ‘not so young’ children to their various sporting activities and watching them grow and succeed. I am also a big ‘Spurs’ fan!
I joined the Claritas graduate programme in May 2023. I graduated from De Montfort University in 2022 with a business law degree. I looked for a career change and fortunately got the opportunity to work for Claritas and I am working towards the ACA and CTA qualification.
I am very excited about gaining experience and exposure in tax and learning as much as I possibly can alongside my experienced colleagues. I am also looking forward to developing my skills and knowledge through helping clients by providing solutions to any issues they may have.
Cricket is my big passion and I play regularly for my local team. I am an avid follower of Tottenham Hotspur, and I try to watch them live whenever I can. In my spare time I like playing video games and socialising with my friends.
I am a specialist in U.K. Innovation Tax Reliefs and I joined Claritas, Manchester in December 2020. I am a qualified solicitor and I have spent 19 years in private practice in Legal 500 firms before deciding to change career in 2017 into corporate tax relief in 2017. In the last few years I have held senior technical and leadership positions at boutique tax consultancies specialising in Research & Development and the Patent Box tax relief.
I split my time between working with companies to claim innovation tax reliefs, working with Matt Hodgson to develop the R&D tax relief team in Manchester and working with Claritas on operational projects. I am passionate about business and I love working with clients.
I hardly sit down and have a very busy family life. I am married to a solicitor and have a son and a daughter who are both sporty and need ferrying about at weekends. I am a keen equestrian and own two horses; a passion that I share with my daughter. I confess that horses take up much of my time outside work (as well as money!).
I’m a chartered tax adviser with over 15 years experience working in tax. Previously I worked as an accountant before embarking on a career in tax advisory where I primarily provide tax advice to OMBs and smaller audit companies.
I primarily work across two of the Claritas service lines, Valuations & Employee Share Schemes and M&A/Corporate which tend to go hand-in-hand with each other. I enjoy spending time with people to understand their goals and the barriers they are facing to achieve them, which quite often leads to discussions around whether business restructures are required and/or if employee share schemes are an appropriate tool to help stakeholders and employees achieve their ambitions. I have seen the benefits share schemes can have as they bring people together to work collaboratively and scale their business, potentially with a view to a sale or exit.
My home life has become a lot more hectic as I recently became a dad. I am also a massive foodie and enjoy the cooking almost as much as the eating. To balance my healthy appetite, I enjoy playing and watching football along with numerous other sports and have been a Wolves season ticket holder for over twenty years.
I’m a Senior Business Development Manager with over 12 years of sales experience in professional services, predominately working for accountancy firms. I’ve worked for organisations ranging from owner managed to large corporates.
I’ve worked across multiple service lines covering many sector’s, helping firms grow organically and specialise in sales planning, lead generations, developing opportunities and winning new business.
My approach is consultative, I build strong working relationships to help identify where value can be added. Supporting accountancy firms with quality tax consultancy to extend the range of services they are able to offer is at the heart of what I do. Always looking to drive the business forward by executing strategic plans and coming up with new ideas!
I enjoy going out for meals with my partner. I’m a Birmingham City supporter and have held a season ticket since 2015. I enjoy spending time with my son and daughter (when they’re not taking chunks out of each other). I keep fit by getting down the gym, doing weights, boxing and can’t beat a good outdoor run!
I’m a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser with over 25 years’ experience in the tax profession. Having worked at Big Four and mid-tier firms in the past, I established Claritas in 2012 to provide big firm experience and expertise to mid-market privately owned and private equity backed businesses and their owners.
I love talking to clients about their businesses, solving problems and helping them take advantage of opportunities. Whilst tax should not drive commercial decision making, tax is at the heart of so many commercial projects, from where to locate a factory to whether to buy or sell a business, as well as how to incentivise staff. This gives us a fantastic opportunity to influence the way business works for the better and I love the intellectual challenge that brings. I’m never happier than when standing with a whiteboard demonstrating how something can be solved, but that may just be the result of having two teachers for parents!
I spend time with my wife and two children, James and Ffion, and with extended family and friends. Having spent far too many years leading a sedentary lifestyle, I’m now enjoying running along the country lanes of Worcestershire on a regular basis, which is probably the only sport I am coordinated enough to do! I have to accept that when it comes to sport, I’m better as a spectator and so I enjoy watching most sports but particularly football – we have a constant battle in my house between me, as a fan of Derby County and my son who is obsessed with Aston Villa, which is probably my reward for having become an adopted Brummie! I also enjoy watching motor racing and used to call myself a petrolhead but, as we now have two electric cars, it’s probably more accurate to call me a “volthead”. Finally, I enjoy travelling, eating out and the occasional pub quiz.
I started my career in Audit with a Big 4 (or Big 6, as it was back then!) Accounting Firm, training as an ACA. After qualifying, I moved into Tax and completed the CTA qualification. I have specialised in Transfer Pricing and what I like to call ‘Operational International Tax’ for the last 20 years. I am a Fellow of the ICAEW and an Associate Member of the CIOT.
I help businesses operating in more than one country to pay the right amount of tax in the right place. There are broadly two sides to this – working with you to design tax-efficient transfer pricing strategies; and preparing documentation to meet compliance obligations. Whether you are taking your first step into a new country, or are an established multinational, I can help you to manage your global tax cost in a compliant manner. My transfer pricing work naturally extends to defence in local tax authority audits, bilateral double taxation relief through tax treaties and value chain planning. More broadly, I can help you mitigate the risk of local taxation through permanent establishments or withholding taxes, so that your margins are not unexpectedly diluted by unforeseen tax costs.
Transfer pricing is a broad discipline and my range of clients and experience means that I always think about the interaction with wider domestic reliefs (e.g. R&D, patent box, etc.), as well as VAT, customs duties and income tax (global mobility). It’s also a very ‘applied’ discipline which therefore often requires a truly pragmatic approach. I am passionate about you, the client, being at the centre of everything I do.
I am ever so slightly obsessive about rowing and have competed in the British Indoor Rowing Championships a number of times. Along with the rest of the UK, I also got into road cycling during lockdown. I have three teenage children who keep me pretty busy too. My embarrassing (and often depressing!) fact is that I am lifelong supporter of Derby County.
Claritas are delighted to be working in partnership with Markel Tax with this service developing the existing and growing relationship between the firms in recent years.
James is a former Inspector of Taxes who worked in HMRC for more than 17 years in a variety of roles. He joined Markel Tax in 2005 and has since applied his extensive experience of handling tax enquiries and disputes to provide a comprehensive service to a wide variety of clients. He prides himself on delivering a high standard of customer service and getting the best possible outcomes for clients under scrutiny by HMRC. James has extensive knowledge of the Alternative Dispute Resolution process having been involved with this since its inception. He is also experienced in settling disguised remuneration cases as well as High Volume Agent enquiries dealt with under the banner of “Sharing Risk Concerns”.
James is always happy to have an initial conversation to see how he and his team can help with any tax dispute. If you would like to speak to James please email info@claritastax.co.uk to arrange a call.
I started my career in VAT as a VAT Inspector with HM Customs and Excise in London. From there I moved to VAT consultancy in practice where I held senior positions in ‘Group A’ firms. I am an Associate member of both the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Association of Taxation Technicians.
I spend my time either problem solving for clients or identifying ways to stop the problems happening in the first place. This necessarily entails understanding what makes the business tick and how VAT fits into this. As VAT is such a broad and dynamic tax, most days of the week will also involve keeping up to date with case law and the many changes occurring since the UK left the EU, all of which I look to turn to our client’s advantage.
In my spare time I walk the family dog, listen to audio books and one day I will re-start learning to play my vintage saxophone, now that there are no more babies in the household to wake up! When travelling I play chess or backgammon against my computer. I enjoy speaking and reading French particularly when spending time at our holiday home near Cognac, France.
My background in VAT started with HM Customs and Excise (prior to its merger with the Inland Revenue) where I was a senior officer in VAT. Since then I have held senior positions in VAT within the major international accountancy firms of KPMG, PWC and EY, working in London, Birmingham and Warsaw. I am a Chartered Tax Adviser and a member of the VAT Practitioners Group, where I am secretary for the St Paul’s Chapter in the city of London.
I relish dealing with the many challenges that VAT presents to our clients, from multi-nationals to owner-managed SMEs. For dynamic businesses these challenges arise when evolving or fine-tuning the products they bring to market and the more innovative the product, the greater the opportunity to stand back and appraise the VAT profile to the client’s advantage.
In my spare time I like reading, cooking, going to Zumba and other dance/keep fit classes (I’m an original aerobics queen) and spending time at our house in south west France. I also like driving and over the years in addition to the obligatory family cars I’ve had a Triumph GT6, Triumph TR7, Saab Cabriolet, Audi A4 Cabriolet and currently I drive a Golf GTI and a Daihatsu Copen
I’m a Chartered Accountant with over 40 years’ experience specialising in providing tax advice, with the last 25 focused on private clients. After retiring from a 30-year career with Grant Thornton as a senior tax partner I joined Claritas as a consultant in October 2017.
My core focus is building Claritas’ Private Client practice and as part of that work alongside all of my colleague where my expertise is required. We undertake a great deal of transactional work, building and selling businesses, and as a consequence we are fortunate to see many wealthy individuals and families. My role is to help clients maintain and preserve wealth maximising control, flexibility and tax efficiency.
I retured from being the Honorary Treasurer of the University of Leicester back in July 2023. I travel a lot, collect first editions of books and visit the theatre regularly. I also pursue interests in family history, armchair sport, crosswords and jigsaws.
I spent the first 10 years of my career in international corporate tax with Big 4 firms in the UK, including 2 secondments to a FTSE 30 tax department. I moved to a senior tax, finance, and legal role with CPP Investments (in Canada and Hong Kong), before moving into the role of Global Head of Tax of GIC, a Singapore sovereign wealth fund. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Tax, and hold the Certified Associate in Project Management status with the Project Management Institute.
My expertise lies in knowing how to ‘fill the gaps’ in the traditional menu of external tax service offerings that are essential for a best-in-class tax function. I can help you to complete those value-add projects for which there is limited experience in the market in a cost-effective manner, based on insights from over 20 years of experience in leading business-focused tax, finance, and legal teams.
I have had the opportunity to travel extensively, and I love to cross off places from my wish list! Living in a ski-and-cycle town allows me to indulge in both sports regularly throughout the year. I sit on the Board of the Georgian Triangle Humane Society and have recently added 2 alumni cats to our household.
