The role:

Due to the continued growth of the firm, we are looking for an in-house part-time Regulatory Compliance Manager to join us in one of our offices in Birmingham or Manchester, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the firm is compliant.

We are looking for a Compliance Manager who will be responsible for ensuring the firm operates within all relevant legal, and regulatory frameworks, developing and implementing compliance policies. The role also involves identifying potential compliance risks, whilst maintaining a strong ethical culture within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development and Implementation:

Develop, maintain, and update compliance policies and procedures aligned with relevant professional regulations (e.g., ICAEW, Anti Money Laundering). Communicate compliance policies to all staff members and ensure proper training on their implementation.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks across the firm’s operations. Develop and implement preventative measures to address risks identified. Monitor compliance risks on an ongoing basis and report critical issues to management.

Compliance Monitoring and Auditing:

Conduct periodic compliance audits to evaluate adherence to firm policies and regulatory requirements. Review client files and engagement letters to ensure compliance with relevant ethical and professional standards. Investigate potential compliance breaches and take appropriate corrective actions.

Client Due Diligence and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance:

Oversee client onboarding procedures, including thorough due diligence checks to comply with AML regulations. Monitor client activity for suspicious transactions and report to relevant authorities when necessary.

Staff Training and Awareness:

Co-ordinate regular compliance training sessions to all staff members, covering relevant legal and ethical standards. Promote a culture of compliance within the firm by encouraging ethical decision-making and reporting concerns.

Regulatory Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and prepare reports for regulatory bodies as required. Stay updated on legislative changes and advise management on their impact on firm operations.

Key Skills:

Legal and Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of relevant professional regulations, including ethical codes, AML laws, and data privacy requirements.

Analytical Skills: Ability to assess complex compliance issues, identify potential risks, and develop effective mitigation strategies.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey compliance information at all levels.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to compliance monitoring.

Relevant Experience:

  • Experience in a compliance role within financial services, accountancy or law firm is essential
  • Familiarity with relevant professional regulations
  • Familiarity with risk management principles and techniques
